Can anyone recommend a good multiple clipboard utility? Something that records everything I sent to the clipboard and lets me access them in the future.

Right now I’m using Clipboard Recorder, which I like the UI for but it has a very annoying limitation. Once it reaches the max number of remembered items, it stops remembering new ones. And it’s a bit of a pain to reset it.

Any suggestions?

I’ve just deleted my 500+ bookmarks, 10 or so years worth of things I found and probably never looked at again. :) But for the last 2 or 3 years, I’ve relied almost solely on google to find what I want. And for the last year or so, anything I might want to remember gets thrown on del.icio.us.

So now I’ve got 35 bookmarks, all of which are aliased or bookmarkets. To check gmail, I type gm. To add a feed to FeedLounge, I type fla. LiveJournal friends? lj. etc…

Bite me. Take your IE requirement and shove it. I’m not violently anti-IE like some,  it just doesn’t offer the kind of browsing experience I want. But to be honest, I can’t remember the last time I visited a site that required me to use IE. So for forcing me to fire up IE to download your stupid update, I say again, Bite Me.

Here’s a very simple 2 step recipe to ruin a perfectly good day:

1) Open refrigerator.
2) Have open box of chicken broth fall on you and the refrigerator. If you can get a dog or a child wet too, go for it.

So we went to the zoo this weekend, where we have a membership. I didn’t have the card with so I asked the woman to look me up. “I’m sorry but I can’t let you in because your name isn’t on the account”, she says. I wasn’t going to get into it that I’d done this a dozen times before without a problem. “But if you fill out this form I can add your name.”

I’m not authorized to go into the zoo, but I am authorized to make changes to the account, and then go into the zoo?

Tonight I learned there are 35 to 40 olives in a 6oz can. That kind of knowledge is irreplaceable.

For a little while I’ve been wanting to make a more direct distinction between “work” and “personal” email. There’s no particular reason, it just seemed like a good idea. I’ve been using gmail more and more, but am not very good about checking it throughout the day, and I don’t really care for its composition window. So I set up Thunderbird to be my client. For anyone interesting (and to document it so I can configure it at home!), here is what I did. Like any technical solution there are a hundred ways to do it, but this one works for me. It’s a whole lot more convoluted that just setting up the pop access through gmail and configuring a different account, but it was important to me to have both sent and received mail funneling through tmail, so all the threads would be together. This is also not my preferred solution, but gmail doesn’t open up all header information for creating filters.

• In Thunderbird, go to “Account Settings”, then “Manage Identites”.
• Add your gmail address as an identity.
• In the signature you attach, to the very end, add something like (gmail:fileme). If you really want to you could probably use some HTML to hide that, but I didn’t care.
• Under “Copies & Folders”, have your gmail address sent a BCC of all your messages.

• Over on gmail, create a new label that will essentially be your “Sent Mail” folder.
• Now create a filter to forward all incoming messages to your “main” email account, whichever one it is that you monitor throughout the day. Create a filter, and in the “From” box, enter “-gmail address”. The “-” is googles equivalent of NOT or !, and it will prevent the BCC you’re sending your gmail account from getting sent back to you. On the next page, set the action as a forward to your normal address.
• Lastly, create a filter to feed the “Sent Mail” label. Set “From” as your gmail address, and Has the words to (gmail:fileme) or whatever unique string you picked from above.

Now in Thunderbird, whenever you want to compose a mail that comes from your gmail account, pick it from the “From” selection in your compose window. After you send that mail, it will show up in your “Sent Mail” label (but different from the system “Sent” folder of gmail). When someone replies to that message it should come back to Thunderbird, and when you reply to it should default as coming from your gmail address.

I know there will be some clean up tagging I need to do in gmail at the end of the day, but that shouldn’t be a big deal. I’ve been doing it less than a day, but definately like it so far.

As cell phones have infiltrated our lives I’ve seen some pretty bizarre behavior. Riding a bicycle and talking is one of my favorites, and I’m not talking with a headset on.

But today was a new one, a guy talking on his cell phone while on the john in the company restroom.

itunes does a lot of crap that annoys me. Mostly it crashes a lot; that really annoys me.

Today’s annoyance is that it won’t sync my ipod, because I don’t have enough free space on it. I’m annoyed because it refuses to sync at all, which includes syncing my ratings from the ipod back to the PC. I have a groovy podcasting setup; it’s a smart playlist that includes all playlists that don’t have a rating of 5. As soon as I listen to a podcast on my ipod, I rate it as a 5, and it falls off the smart playlist.

So if itunes was smart enough to copy over my ratings, it would free up a bunch of space, and I would have enough room on my ipod. But it’s not that smart.

Howstuffworks “How Friday the 13th Works”

An interesting little piece on the superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th. I only took baths, not showers, until I was about 12 because of that movie. No wait, it’s about the actual date not the movie.

Apparently it’s not just 13 that’s bad, but Friday used to be bad luck too, back in they day. In our modern 5 day work week, though, it’s the greatest day ever invented.
