Expectation Management

A good corporate buzzword is “expectation management”. It involves keeping ideas about a project in check, so that your project to properly capitalize addresses isn’t expected to balance the deficit and solve world peace. Most of expectation management involved rumor control and actually communicating, a serious pitfall for almost any organization.
I realized it’s a valid concept for most people too. Keeping there own expectations in check that is. I lost my first full pound finally, and thought “Yes!”. Then in the back of my mind was this flash: “I’m on a roll! I’ve broken through the barrier! The pounds will come rolling off now like a sweat off a warthog!”* Hopefully I can keep that flash in the background and not get discouraged if it takes awhile before I lose another pound.
* Warthogs of course don’t sweat, but you’re missing the point you little nitpickers
