This Meme would have been more interesting if Dave wasn’t such a tool ;)

Jane has named one of her stuffed animals “Rational Rabbit”

At work. 1a. Monday morning.

Now to temper that fact a little, I wouldn’t normally be in bed yet anyway.

I wrote 2824 lines of code this weekend. I don’t ever count lines of code, but that seems like quite a bit.

11p. Saturday night. Working.

This night could be indistinguishable from one ten years ago. Except tonight I’m sacrificing quality time with my wife and family to finish a project on a deadline. Ten years ago I would have been huddled in my office for lack of a single other option. Or in the rare chance there was something going on that night, I would use work as an excuse to not go.

You tell me which is more sad.

I’m part of a hiring committee for a job on campus, an entirely different department. They asked for me help evaluating the applicants, and for some reason I agreed. It’s an insane amount of time, even bigger than I initially feared, but I always greatly enjoy the process.

It always makes me think of my own career progression, which is going pretty well. It makes me think of my own technical prowess, which I always wish could be better. It makes me think about my educational background, which I’m comfortable with or not depending on the time of day. This particular department appears to place considerable emphasis on degree’s, so at this time of the day I’m less comfortable than others.

Here’s a good one I hadn’t heard before. Feel free to answer it, the comment feature is there for a reason people.

“Let’s pretend for a minute that you get this position. Imagine that you have settled in and been working with us for about six months. What will we likely discover or learn about you that may not be evident today?”

Yesterday I found yet another magnetic “lost a key” box on the outside of the house, this time buried in the flower bed outside the door. This is at least the 6th set of keys we’ve found, and it’s a year and a half since we’ve been there. When we moved in he was fairly adamant about paying to have all our locks changed. He wasn’t entirely sure who had copies of his keys, or where other copies might be. Sure glad we took him up on that offer.

I feel like my domain name should have been “impletethoughts” or “abortedthoughts”. That last entry stunk. I need wireless ethernet in my brain, I come up with a ton of posts standing at the bus stop every morning.

My boss’ last day of work was Tuesday. To call her my boss seems incomplete and wrong hearted, even if it’s a perfectly apt description of our work relationship. “Boss” seems like a perfunctory, almost dirty word.

Nonetheless, Karen was my boss at work. Also a fantastic friend. She’s the friend I’ve had longest in Tucson, in fact. I don’t doubt we’ll stay in touch a great deal, but it still sucks. Together, she and I accomplished great things for the University.

Yet another project I have negative desire to do. This one has a definate and hard deadline, which makes me want to do it quite a bit less. Blech.

It’s frustrating when Rhythm Nation comes on right when I’m heading to the Locker Room. What a waste of a fantastic workout song.
